Shockwave for Pelvic Therapy

By Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT 3 min read

At Body Motion Physical Therapy, we are constantly exploring ways to enhance the outcomes of pelvic floor therapy. One of my passion projects has been integrating innovative tools: shockwave therapy and EMTT (Electromagnetic Transduction Therapy) into our pelvic floor protocols.

While these applications are not yet widely studied or published in research, the clinical outcomes we’ve seen with our clients are undeniable. In fact, many women struggling to conceive, even those undergoing IUI or IVF, have experienced faster success after adding these treatments to their care plan.

Why Organ Mobility Matters

Inside your body, your organs are designed to move. Even when you’re not breathing, your pelvic and abdominal organs should glide and shift naturally. But factors like:

Pregnancy and postpartum recovery

  • Abdominal surgery
  • Chronic stress
  • Constipation or bloating
  • Scar tissue
  • High-intensity exercise

…can all lead to chronic tension and limited visceral motility (organ mobility). When this happens, the natural rhythm and function of the reproductive system can be compromised.

How Shockwave Therapy Helps

We use shockwave therapy over the lower abdomen to improve blood flow and restore organ movement. This simple but powerful technique helps optimize basic reproductive functions, including:

  • The ovaries releasing an egg each month
  • The fallopian tubes moving the egg toward fertilization
  • The uterus preparing for implantation

By restoring mobility and circulation, shockwave therapy can help the reproductive organs work the way they’re meant to.

Adding EMTT for Inflammation & Function

After shockwave therapy, we often incorporate EMTT. This pulsing therapy helps reduce inflammation around the pelvic organs, further enhancing their function.

Together, shockwave and EMTT create a one-two punch for reproductive health, and clinically, we’ve seen them significantly increase conception rates in women who had been trying everything else without success.

Benefits Beyond Fertility

Even if you’re not actively trying to conceive, these therapies can provide important benefits, including:

  • Reducing menstrual cramps and pelvic heaviness
  • Relieving low back pain during your cycle
  • Supporting the uterus in functioning optimally
  • Strengthening the transverse abdominis (lower core muscle), especially helpful after multiple pregnancies

A Note on Cycle Tracking

Understanding your cycle is an important part of fertility health. We provide resources and coaching on multiple ways to track your fertility signs and cyclical fluctuations, so you can better connect with your body and maximize your chances of success.

Shockwave and EMTT are not yet standard in fertility or pelvic health care, but based on our clinical results, we believe they should be. We’re passionate about collecting data, sharing outcomes, and teaching other pelvic PTs about these powerful tools.

If you’re curious, come try a free session and experience how these therapies can help restore your body’s natural rhythm, improve comfort, and even support your fertility journey.
