How it works

How pelvic therapy supports fertility

Caring for the physical side of conception.

Fertility is complex, and hormones, genetics, and medical factors all play a role. Physical factors matter too: blood flow to the pelvis, how freely the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding tissue can move, scar tissue and adhesions from past surgery or endometriosis, and pelvic floor tension that can make sex painful.

That's where pelvic floor physical therapy comes in. Using visceral manipulation, adhesion and scar release, pelvic floor treatment, and our Body Motion Wave shockwave protocol, we work to improve circulation and mobility through the pelvis and help your body feel ready for pregnancy.

Our fertility protocols were developed by Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT, and can be used on their own as a holistic approach or as a supportive adjunct to medical fertility care, including IUI and IVF. We're happy to coordinate with your OB or reproductive endocrinologist.

I have been wanting to write a review & still don’t know how or where to start to put my experience into words. Allison, Sabrina, Alexis and the entire team are just a dream to work with. I have struggled with severe endometriosis for 20+ years, multiple IVF treatments, 3 c sections (1 emergency) and multiple operations between. I cannot begin to tell you the difference my body felt just after even 1 session. Adding in the shock wave therapy has been a game changer and for the first time in over 20 years I had a painLESS period followed now by 3 full months of pain free debilitating periods. This really can and will change your life. I cannot recommend enough!!!

I found Body Motion 9 months after the delivery of my first child. I had a severe tear and had healed improperly and my body and intimate life were not in a good space. The team at Body Motion gave me a safe space to heal emotionally and physically. They specialize in pelvic floor health but don’t treat you in a bubble, they look at the whole person and tend to aches and pains throughout your body.

They supported me through my journey to conceive for child number two and they will be my first call when I deliver!

I’m happier, more confident in my body and abilities to deliver a child and heal postpartum, and get back to a healthy intimate life with my husband.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I saw Dr. Riley at Body Motion pre-conception, during pregnancy, and postpartum and have had the best experiences here. The entire staff is absolutely wonderful to chat with and always so helpful. I always felt so comfortable with Dr. Riley and she is so knowledgeable about the anatomy and physiology of the pelvic floor and beyond. From treating my pelvic pain before, during, and after pregnancy, to helping with back and knee pain, the care I received really improved my day to day life. I also feel that the physical therapy made my first labor, delivery, and recovery much smoother than I anticipated. I went into labor feeling like I was mentally and physically prepared, and I could not have asked for anything better!

Having painful cycles for years. Seemed to be getting worse as I got older. Heard about shockwave helping with scar tissue I got some here and there so I decided to try it. An after just the first session my cycle was WAY less painful. Feels like it help loosen up all the tightness in my muscles. It's not painful to do the session itself but it's uncomfortable feeling but left no marks or irritation on skin . Will do again and highly recommend. Great informative staff and really clean comfortable office .

Fertility support FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can physical therapy help me get pregnant?

Physical therapy can't guarantee pregnancy, and fertility has many causes. What we can do is address the physical factors we see most: restricted organ mobility, adhesions, pelvic floor tension, painful periods, and painful sex, so your body is as prepared as possible.

Is this an alternative to IVF?

For some women, it's a holistic first step. For others, it's a supportive adjunct to IUI or IVF. We always encourage you to work with your OB or reproductive endocrinologist and are happy to coordinate with them.

Can I do this during IUI or IVF?

Yes. We time and adjust treatment around your cycle and follow any guidance from your fertility clinic, such as pausing certain techniques around transfer.

When should I see a fertility specialist?

ACOG recommends an evaluation after 12 months of trying if you're under 35, after 6 months if you're 35 or older, and sooner if you have irregular cycles or known conditions such as endometriosis.

How does shockwave support fertility?

Our Body Motion Wave shockwave protocol uses acoustic pressure waves to support circulation and soften restricted tissue in the pelvis and abdomen. We combine it with hands-on therapy as part of your plan.

Can it help with endometriosis or PCOS?

We can't treat the underlying conditions, but we can help with the pain, adhesions, pelvic floor tension, and painful sex that often come with them, alongside care from your medical team.

Do I have to have an internal exam?

No. An internal assessment can tell us a lot about your pelvic floor, and we'll explain how it can help, but it is always your choice. Much of our fertility work is external.

What happens at my first visit?

We start by listening to your story, cycle history, and goals. Then we assess your breathing, posture, abdomen, scar tissue, and pelvic floor, and build a plan that fits your timeline.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your history and timeline. After your evaluation we'll recommend a plan of care and a 12, 16, or 24 visit package that fits it.

A message from our founder

Why I started Body Motion

Years ago, I was frustrated in my own postpartum body. Since then I've seen too many women in their 40s and 50s dealing with hip, back, and joint pain, and leaking too, who go on to need joint replacements and, later, live with incontinence. That cycle is why I started Body Motion. Most women wait months or even years before getting help, and the one thing I can promise is that doing nothing won't make pelvic floor issues better. The next step is to take action. — Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT
