How it works

What is red light therapy?

Energy for your cells.

Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation or PBM, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate the mitochondria inside your cells. The mitochondria are your body's energy factories, and when they receive these wavelengths they produce more cellular energy (ATP). That extra energy powers everything from tissue repair and collagen production to hormonal balance and better sleep.

It's one of the most gentle and well-tolerated regenerative therapies available. There's no heat damage, no UV exposure, no medication, no pain, and no recovery time. You simply sit or lie back under the light panels and let your cells do the work.

At Body Motion Physical Therapy, we use professional-grade Platinum Therapy Lights with optimized wavelengths for both red and near-infrared therapy, the same technology used in clinical research studies.

Patient stories

What our patients say

★★★★★ 5.0 on Google

★★★★★

I cannot recommend Dr. Victoria enough! She has been able to help me through my post-surgery struggles through not only her expertise but as a truly caring physician with a positive and holistic care approach. The rest of the team is also very friendly and caring, kudos to Devyn and Isabele! Thank you for all you do for women!

★★★★★

Every single staff member here is unfailingly positive, encouraging, and friendly. Going to a doctor always gives me anxiety but coming here doesn't give me any anymore.

★★★★★

Dr. Victoria was so welcoming & made me feel so comfortable with all the new PT experiences. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. I left feeling empowered with a better understanding of what was going on with my body & how to progress in the future. In 8 sessions she was able to help heal over 10 years of issues! The whole staff at Body Motion were so kind and accommodating.

★★★★★

5++++ stars for Dr. Riley Phelps. She's extremely knowledgeable about my treatment plan and addressing issues related to my various injuries. She immediately put me at ease with her professionalism and ability to explain the intention of the treatment. In addition, she always gives me exercises and stretches to continue to build upon my in-office treatments.

★★★★★

I was nearly immobile for 2 years with chronic sciatic nerve pain. A great many doctors & specialists could not diagnose me and kept suggesting "weight loss and yoga". I read Allison's newsletter at a shop in Edmonds and the day I finally saw her she knew PRECISELY what I needed. Nobody else knew that my pregnancy 12 years ago could affect my body so deeply now. After so many doctors, I was convinced that I would never be able to work or even get through a day without severe pain. I was also convinced that I wasn't worth trying to heal. Dr. Allison Feldt changed my mind on both accounts.

Red Light Therapy FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation or PBM, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate the mitochondria in your cells. This boosts cellular energy production, reduces inflammation, accelerates tissue repair, and supports skin, muscle, and hormonal health.

Does red light therapy hurt?

Not at all. Red light therapy is completely painless and feels gently warm, like sitting in a sunbeam without the UV exposure. There is no heat damage, no skin irritation, and no recovery time afterward.

What does red light therapy help with?

Postpartum recovery and diastasis recti healing, scar and stretch mark reduction, muscle recovery and joint pain relief, skin tone and collagen, sleep quality, mood, stress and energy, hormonal balance through perimenopause and menopause, and fertility and reproductive support.

How often should I do red light therapy?

For best results, most patients do 3 to 5 sessions per week for the first 4 to 8 weeks, then transition to a maintenance schedule of 1 to 2 sessions per week. Your provider will recommend a frequency based on your specific goals.

How long does a session take?

Sessions typically last 10 to 20 minutes. There's no preparation required, and you can return to work, exercise, or your day immediately after.

Is red light therapy safe during pregnancy?

Red light therapy is widely considered gentle and non-invasive, and many providers use it during pregnancy for general aches, skin support, and stress relief. We recommend confirming with your OB or midwife first, and we typically avoid direct application over the abdomen during pregnancy unless specifically approved by your provider.

Is it the same as a tanning bed?

No. Tanning beds use UV light, which can damage skin and increase cancer risk. Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared wavelengths that contain no UV, cause no tanning, and support cellular repair rather than causing damage.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes, and we often do. Red light therapy pairs beautifully with Shockwave, EMTT, and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy. Combining therapies often produces faster and more complete results than any single treatment alone.

Is red light therapy covered by insurance?

Red light therapy is a cash-pay wellness service and is not covered by most insurance plans. We can provide a Good Faith Estimate when you schedule at least 3 days in advance. Call (425) 582-0727 or email support@bodymotionpt.com for details.
