Returning To Intimacy

By Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT 3 min read

Problems in the bedroom? Is discomfort or pain getting in the way?

Many women get to a point in their life where sex becomes a scheduled task. They quite possibly dread it but know they must do it so their partner will continue to feel valued and loved. One worrisome thought is that your relationship could fail or your partner would cheat or leave perhaps if they aren’t getting the “love” or “feeling loved.”That is scary and a huge burden to put on yourself. We never want you to feel like you have to just grit your teeth through sex because of discomfort or pain.

Hormones and psychology do play a large role in sex drive and we will save that conversation for another day. What we want to talk about today is that for many women, especially after babies and after menopause, sex hurts. For some women, they have never orgasmed. For some women, they can’t orgasm anymore. Sometimes this leaves you feeling broken or can leave you feeling guilty. Maybe you just suck it up even though it doesn’t feel good and you just hope that your partner hurries up and finishes because you can barely stand it. You also maybe will fake enjoyment just to ensure your partner doesn’t feel like they are hurting you.

We have some really good news for you. You DO NOT HAVE TO SUFFER FROM PAINFUL OR UNCOMFORTABLE INTERCOURSE. Here are some of the common things we hear: me times because he knows it’s hurting me and so we just don’t have sex. I feel so bad” Here is the deal. You no longer just have to TOLERATE having sex. There are so many things we can do to help improve your sex life and your sexual experience. You deserve to enjoy sex again. And when you enjoy it, everyone is happier.

Painful or uncomfortable intercourse actually has a name. It’s called Dyspareunia. There is a lot that can be done by a pelvic expert physical therapist in order to help this and get you back to a healthy intimate relationship with your partner and yourself. Body Motion Physical Therapist specializes in helping women live active, confident and healthy lives without pain med or medication. A big piece is helping you be active and confident in the bedroom. Pelvic techniques and protocols that we have created at Body Motion include manual, therapeutic, exercises, neurologic and behavioral tools that will absolutely restore your ability to enjoy intercourse and enhance the pleasure that you will get from your sexual experiences.

Yes knowing how to use your pelvic floor can actually improve your orgasms. Sex in this day and age is still taboo for women to talk about but we are breaking the mold and are an open door for conversation and questions.
