Postpartum Problems Addressed By Pelvic Floor Therapy

By Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT 2 min read

Carly, 29 came to Body Motion after spending years in pain. When she finally got our information she cried over the phone because she felt helpless and she was scared for her future. She wasn’t even 30 yet and could barely stand for an hour. Her back pain was so bad! She has 3 children, 2, 4 and 7 and has been in pain since her first pregnancy.

She wasn’t able to return to work because she was in so much pain, it was a strain on her marriage and her family because she had to rely on her mom and sister to help support her and provide child care assistance. “It is a literal nightmare when your baby looks at you and wants to be held and you cannot pick them up” Relying heavily on over the counter pain relief and limited movement she started considering surgeries and injections, which she had always tried to avoid,  because her own mom suffered with chronic back pain and had to undergo multiple surgeries and still struggled. Thankfully, her sister saw our IG and thought it would help!

After her first visit she stood up beaming “I already feel a difference!”

We are here to save women from living a life of limits:

I can’t run
I can’t go on road trips
I can’t enjoy sex
I can’t have more kids I’m too traumatized from my last birth
I can’t do the workouts I used to love
I can’t carry my kids
I never go hiking or even on long walks
I can’t sit and watch a movie I always have to get up and move
I can’t work it’s just too physically demanding
I can’t wake up without pain
I feel weak
I feel exhausted all the time
I feel broken
I feel like I’m disappointing my family
I feel like a failure

There is so much internalized trauma for mothers struggling with pain. Our society says that you should be the “do it all” woman, taking care of the kids, the house, yourself and your career but when you are dealing with constant pain it affects every area of your life.
