Internal manual therapy essentially means the Pelvic Experts at Body Motion PT use our gloved fingers internally, in the vaginal canal, to map out and release the 3 layers of the Pelvic Floor.
A helpful way to understand this is look at your pointer finger each horizontal line (there should be 3 prominent ones) is a different layer of the pelvic floor. Within the different layers there can be sections that have adhesions or scarring which means those sections or even full layers don’t have the blood flow or strength they need to be effective.
You may have heard my example that a pelvic floor muscle that has adhesions and scarring and isn’t functioning properly feels like beef jerky. Which makes sense because essentially beef jerky is a dehydrated muscle. Internal manual therapy restores the muscle quality back to that of a chicken breast.
If you feel like you lack control of your pelvic floor I hope this explanation helps. Of course it would be hard to have a mind body connection to a muscle that is essentially beef jerky. That’s why manual release and coordination of our pelvic floor muscles will help restore the mind body connection and allow normal functions to return and pelvic floor dysfunctions to stop.
