The Postpartum Prescription American Moms Are Denied

Most women and birthing people will tell you that after birth they no longer feel like the priority to most of their providers. This new person has taken center stage and you are now in the “4th trimester congratulations, great job, take things slow. Pain is to be expected, etc” phase and all the while life and their bodies are so different. With the mom shame, that comes with focusing on yourself and the generalized advice from your care team at 6 weeks that any issues are normal and will go away on their own.
Generations of women have hobbled home in pain, with fears and concerns that have been ignored and led to larger issues throughout their lives. Issues like prolapse, common postpartum because you are physically pushing a human out of your body that the pressure can cause other organs to move as well. Issues like incontinence, where you cannot hold your urine or feces whether it’s because of a sneeze or a jump or even just a long walk. Pain throughout your body like your neck, back, hip and knees can all be common chronic pains postpartum. Ab separation, where the muscles of your core have physically split from the internal pressure of pregnancy.
It is not uncommon for us to get calls from women in their 70’s who are scheduled to have another surgery and just found out about Pelvic Floor PT, 50+ Years after giving birth. That’s 50 years of pain, worry, stress and limits. In countries like France and England women are given a prescription for Pelvic Floor Therapy. It’s common practice. The healthcare system in the United States is more focused on treating an issue vs. preventing it. Prevent issues postpartum, prepare for birth with a Pelvic Floor PT to limit birth injuries and heal properly postpartum. Here at Body Motion PT We Help Women Through Fertility, Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum and Beyond So They Can Live Active, Confident, Healthy Lives Without The Need Surgeries Or Medications!
